Lunch at Zest restaurant today. We sat in the main dining area which had a great vibe and a view across the ocean – superb location. They offer outdoor seating which must be stunning in summer.
Our waiter was brilliant – Sydney was attentive, knew his stuff and was always around when we needed service. Best waiter service I’ve had in a long time.
Between the 4 of us we had the Asian beef, the Smokey sweet potato, the fish cakes and some oysters for starters. All of them were divine. The Asian Beef was my favorite – packed with flavour. Yumm. Portions are generous so if you’re light on digestive capacity, order 2 small plates OR a main.
For mains, my wife and I each had a seafood combo – prawns, salmon and calamari. The prawns were probably the best I’ve had in Cape Town this year. Only two in the dish but they were huge, firm, perfectly cooked. The salmon was so delicious- cooked with a wood smoked finished. A bit rich, and in my opinion, just the right amount of it in this combo dish. Too rich to have as a main on its own. The calamari was the only thing that didn’t belong in the combo – it was a cold calamari salad in a vinaigrette dressing with peppers. I would have expected a warm calamari with the main. However, it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the dish, it was superb.
Others at the table had the chicken dish – the only one on the menu – which was delicious, I had a bite, could happily have polished off the entire dish, and the surf and turf combo – more of those delicious and generous prawns with a 100g fillet. Also looked perfect.
They offer about 6 sides to accompany the main. Portions are huge so we ordered 2 sides between the 4 of us.
Zest is my new favorite restaurant in Seapoint. Definitely going back to try their lunchtime specials Monday to Thursday.
A little pricey but not over the top. Highly recommended.
